Search Atlantic County Records Online
Atlantic County offers online access through a system called RecordsNG Search. This tool lets you look up documents from your home or office. Document images from March 1, 2000 forward are free to view online. The system uses a module called SearchNG that works the same way from a local office computer or a remote connection. Atlantic County Phone Directory History
Atlantic County was created by an act of the legislature on February 7, 1837. The very first deed was recorded by J.H. Collins, the first county clerk, on May 4, 1837. That deed covered 40 acres in Egg Harbor Township, sold by D. Robart and wife to Samuel Saunders. The Clerk's Office has served as the official repository for all land records since that date. Deeds, mortgages, business names, and certain court filings all live here.
For records before 1848, you may need to check church records from Quaker, Methodist, or Presbyterian congregations. Family Bibles and cemetery inscriptions are also useful. From May 1848 through December 31, 1920, the primary source is the New Jersey State Archives in Trenton. Records from 1921 onward fall under the New Jersey Department of Health, Office of Vital Statistics.
